I rush to the airport early every time in anticipation of seeing my new arrivals. After only seeing a few pictures to make the intial purchase and then waiting what seems like months for good weather to ship I just tear into the boxes as soon as I get them into my car from the airports pick-up terminal. I was really happy to see these new additions. Every time the excitement is still there and part of the reason I love this hobby so much.

The new additions consist of 1 Female Albino Motley, 1 Female Hypo Jungle Motley and 1 Male Albino Jungle Arabesque. Some real genetic potential to these three and I cannot wait to plug them into other projects here.

I have been waiting for them to settle and accept the first meals before playing with them to much as they will be in quarantine for a while here. Meaning that I have to handle them last throughout the day as I dont want to pread anything any newcomer has to my snake room and the majority of my collection. The Albino Motley is waiting on a shed so I will post her in a few days.

She's just a 2011 kahl snow, but we needed one in our collection and I believe we really chose a beautiful one.

She's still settling in here but I hope to get some awesome contrast shots with her and the IMG Anery as they both progress ASAP

It seemed like it had a rough flight and was a little grumpy so I put him into quarantine and figured he would be fine the next day. I let him settle in and with every misting or opening of the enclosure it start hissing and snapping. This little male is a CRAZY boa for sure. He’s had several handling with the leather welding gloves now and hasn’t calmed down. I was hoping to do an awesome skull photo session with him but he is just too crazy so here is what you get for the time.

On a better note, I upgraded my IMG poss het snow to an Anery IMG poss het albino. Craig was great to deal with and we figured it would be better for our projects here to get that Anery gene in there for sure. This boa is already black and with no red pigment it will be a real sight when it reaches adulthood. He is roughly 10 months old and on track to be breedable by the 2012-2013 season.

I have some serious plans for this hopeful stud with my ultimate goal being to breed him to Rhea for some light Anery IMG motley’s!!!! Then maybe some colorful hypo, ghost , anery and pastel IMG Jungles that start out wicked light and then get taken over with black like Marvel’s Venom super villain but throughout the time of 2 year’s. I’m interested to see if the black takes over all these pattern’s and colors evenly or does it work differently with various mutations/morphs.

Tho it would suck if your striped jungle IMG Anery just lost that wicked pattern and highlights the genetics would still be there to distribute evenly throughout the litter. I’m truly excited to see what we could do with a few other things to as I know it does not take over the Albino so how would it react with a t+ line???? Exiting times ahead.

First daytime litter and my first time getting to see the process unfold.

She was 121 days since Ovulation and had no shed to go off of.
2 days early, 16 full term babies, no slugs, no still-borns.

This was a het to het breeding so I am very happy with the odds. Also this is a different female than last year's litter too

2 Anery Motley
3 Motley 66% het Anery
3 Anery
7 Normal 66% het Anery

More pics and video to come

So after a little debate with what I wanted to get into this year I have finally settled on a IMG aka Azabache Boa.

These wonderful boas were discovered by Peter Kahl a few years ago and more info can be found here. Peter Kahl’s IMG Boa or Urban Boa Azabache
This one in particular is coming from www.urbanboa.com and is a 66% poss het Snow

The Azabache gene in itself is really quite amazing as you start out with a regular boa with slightly more freckles and with each shed the Melanin increases till you are left with an almost solid black boa that compares to nothing else out there. The gene is also Dominant and with me getting a 9 month old male I may be able to produce some of my own within the next couple of years.

I still have to pay him off completely but he should be here in Early June. Stay Tuned for more on this amazing Morph!

This is my 4th professional photo shoot, all with different photographers and models. This shoot was orchestrated by my friend Nicole Prevost whom I have done a couple shoots with now.
Last weekend I was just there to volunteer my snakes and soak in some of the eye candy and studio knowledge.
I had a seriously fun time and the models and photographer were all a pleasure to work with.

Photo ABOVE
Model: Jaclyn Unilowski
Makeup: Deborah Boccabella
Photographer: Jay Asstastic Russell(The Photo Fiend)
ALL RIGHTS RESERVED
Snakes: www.betterboa.com

Model: Niki Middleton
Makeup: Deborah Boccabella
Photographer: Jay Asstastic Russell(The Photo Fiend)
ALL RIGHTS RESERVED
Snakes: www.betterboa.com

I knew this was going to be a smaller litter as she was a first time Mother and was not showing as much as she should have been. Today sometime after 9PM she decided to give birth in her water dish. This was new to me this season perhaps due to higher than normal room temps as I had observed both gravid females soaking a few days prior to the birthings, and both had their waxy poos in the large water dishes I provided.

Luckily my brother discovered them before any began to drown in the water.
The female was a J.S. Jungle 66% poss het Kahl Albino and the father a Pure Kahl Albino. Unfortunately she did not prove out and I am left with 5 Beautiful, but still definite Jungles and 6 normals all 100% het Albino!!!!

Still the White boa evades me, but I'm glad to have 11 healthy plump, fully developed babies and a healthy and hungry mother.

There was 2 odd stillborn neonates. One of them happened to look like a Circle Back Ladder Tail. Almost like a KWB or a het Roswell. This may be a repeat pairing in the future.

No stillborns or slugs and most of the babies are fully developed and have absorbed all their yolks.

There were 9 Motley's total and 7 Normals. 16 Total. A small number for this female but she seems to be finished and is back to her hungry self.

More pics to come

Athena is set to have some motleys first and then 3 days later I’m hoping for some nice jungle stuff.

Both females are right on track in the classical cinnabun HCP. I even checked with the doppler and heard several heartbeats on both females when I checked the other night.

I’m really hoping to produce more colorful striated Motleys like I did back in 2009 and hopefully some heavy abbarant Jungles and possibly even Albino Jungles. I don’t wanna jinx anything as this would be my first white boas to produce after having a possible het female disappoint last season.
Fingers crossed everyone and the countdown is on.
I started separating pairs to allow me to feed the females a small meal between courting.
Tried to pull the male albino off the female Jungle poss het and saw they were locked up and witnessed the hemi-pene still attached to the female.
Also saw a distinct swelling and this female has not eaten in 3-4 weeks.
This pair had me worried cause I did not even see courting for the first month, but caught a copulation shot last week and today.
This would be my first time producing albinos of any sort so I'm pretty excited for this to work out.

I

He has been courting non stop and I have even witnessed copulation twice thus far.

Also have my Jer stone Jungle poss het Albino paired up with my Albino male. He was just laying with her for the first few weeks but I threw in 2 younger males fresh sheds and finally witnessed some courting from him too!!!!

I also have one more dinker project with my banded motley's to the hypo but yet to see anything there.

I had been working on getting these over to my house for 3 months now and since the litter was born in May 2010. They were produced by Marshall Lionti from SignatureSnakes.com. The pairing was a Hypo Jungle het Albino to a Ghost female. The litter had some amazing striped sunglow jungles and these 2 hypos stuck out from the beginning. I secured them early on and was paying them off till the other day. They are both 50% poss super hypo, Jungle, 100% het Anery and 66%het Albino.
The female is pictured above and the male below.

Actually watched them slice the eggs in a few spots and then wiggle around for that first breath.
Looks like just some Anery het motley.
I noticed the eyes look different in comparison to prior anery babies I have hatched.

Any Idea what's going on?

The good thing about breeding your own keepers is you don’t have to buy as many boas per year. This 2008 Female Ghost comes from Will and Michelle at Xeno Reptiles but was originally produced by Henry Piourin.

I have some nice plans for this female in the future but she still has a ways to go before breeding. I may pair her up with an anery motley in 2012-2013 and try for the Ghost Motley’s!!!

You can check her out on the New Collection page as well as updated shots of all the boas plus my new addition Keepers. I decided to keep 5 this year and named them all following my Greek mythology pattern.
